Suspended jail term for Fagan

NZPA-PA London The Buckingham Palace intruder, Michael Fagan, was given a three-month suspended jail sentence yesterday for attacking an offduty policeman in a cafe. Fagan, aged 34, of Arundel Square, Islington, north London, had been remanded in custody for 21 days awaiting probation reports after being convicted of two assault charges — breach of the peace and causing damage to property — after an incident at a cafe. Magistrates at Fishguard, Dyfed, were told Fagan went to Wales to relax and escape from the pressures of his life. Peter Cross, defending, said on July 23 Fagan visited a pub in Fishguard

and had too much to drink. This was partly due to his notoriety because people who recognised him bought him drinks. Then he went to a cafe in Lower Fishguard where he was abusive to the proprietress. A policeman on holiday intervened after Fagan . took hold of the woman's arm and started swearing. Fagan struck the policeman in the eye. He was arrested and appeared in court the next day. Mr Cross said Fagan did not know the man was an off-duty The magistrates decided not to take action for breach of a probation order placed on Fagan by Highbury Corner magistrates on June 3 for assault charges.
