Mediator gets results
PA Wellington Full work resumed at General Motors’ Trentham plant yesterday after intervention by an industrial mediator, Mr Tom Groves. Fifty coachworkers walked out on Friday and on Monday after the company refused to accept the workers’ appointment of a former job delegate, Mr Michael Sinai, as an inspector in the bodyshop. Another 200 workers were suspended on Monday as work ran out. A company spokesman, Mr Robin Curtis, said that normal work began yesterday morning after the union accepted that Mr Sinai should continue in his old job ’as a metal finisher, pending further talks. Mr Groves said he was confident things would be settled in the next few weeks to everyone’s satisfaction.
