NZPA-Reuter Paris The French Communist Party abstained as the new Prime Minister, Laurent Fabius, won a Parliamentary vote of confidence with a pledge to continue the austerity policies of his predecssor, Pierre Mauroy. The vote in the National Assembly yesterday was 279 to 157 with 46 abstentions. The Prime Minister’s Socialist Party voted in favour and the opposition U.D.F, and R.P.R. parties against.
