Ferry disputes affecting tourism

PA Wellington mDisputes involving the Cook Strait ferry service are hurting New Zealand tourism, according to the incoming Minister of Tourism, Mr Moore. “You are not.one country unless that thing runs smoothly,” said Mr Moore yesterday. Answering a question at the annual conference of the Motel Association of New Zealand in Wellington, Mr Moore said that he was prepared to take full responsibility for the Cook Strait service. He said that he had already learned one thing: the dispute could not be solved* publicly nor through the newspapers. Earlier, Mr Moore said that he had considered restructuring the Tourist and Publicity Department. "I was very cynical about it at first, but I am confident now that there are some tremendous people there,” he said. Mr Moore was also enthusiastic about the potential of tourism, saying the incoming Labour Government was “absolutely committed to it.”
