Sir Robert Muldoon thanked

Sir,—Full marks to Sir Robert Muldoon for his refusal to accept economists’ advice in the past. Had he done so, our standard of living would have been greatly reduced after the first oil crisis. The full effect of the second oil crisis has not yet been felt. It is to be hoped that the new Government will be able to handle it. Full marks also for Sir Robert’s endeavours in world finance to ease restrictions put on Third World countries by the World Bank and the I.M.F. In this he attained world stature and was acclaimed by every country except the United States and Britain. Full marks for his reduction of inflation. It is strange that the new Government has continued the wage and price freeze which it said would not work. Thank you Sir Robert. I do not belong to the National Party, having voted Social Credit for at least 17 years:—Yours, etc., A. T. HURLEY. July 24, 1980.
