Glue-sniffing youths on buses terrorise girls

PA Auckland Schoolgirls are being terrorised by youths on the buses and three school principals have complained to the Auckland Regional Authority. Girls from some of Auckland’s top private schools have been molested by the glue-sniffing youths. Complaints of offensive behaviour include running their hands up their skirts and on one occasion striking a girl, as well as making lewd suggestions. In one incident, the

woman driver of a Glen ; Innes bus drove to a police station and had to order some youths off. The operations superintendent of the A.R.A., Mr Frank Young, has revealed that a similar incident occurred on an Onehunga bus but the driver “chose not to become involved.” The principals of St Cuthbert’s, Corran, and Diocessan schools have com-

plained to the authority. The A.R.A. has asked its drivers to watch out for troublemakers. If problems occur, drivers have been told to drive to the nearest police station. The A.R.A. bus manager, Mr Ron Shearer, said that he believed the problem had been resolved by bus inspectors travelling on the buses. The principals could not be reached for comment.
