Electric power supply
Sir, — On Monday, June 16, once again the people of Christchurch suffered, through no fault of their own, when water heaters and heaters were turned off. We were told that if we were cold it was a state of mind. Christchurch has a real smog problem in winter months, but until the City Council and the M.E.D. get their heads together and can prove to residents there will be a good supply of electricity when needed, there is not much point in talking of smoke-free zones. I shudder to think how much longer power would have been off if all residents were wholly dependent on electricity. Every winter families like ours have suffered with continuous cold to warm water for baths. I am sure that when the community is assured of a good supply of electricity when needed it will convert. — Yours, etc., M. E. GRIBBEN. July 19, 1984.
