Tennis pair eliminated
NZPA-APNewport, Rhode Island Russell Simpson, of New Zealand, put up a valiant fight before losing to Paul Annacone, of the United States, in the Miller Hall of Fame tennis championship in Newport yesterday. Simpson won the first set, 6-2, against the surprise ■Wimbledon men’s singles semi-finalist, but lost the
next two in tie-breakers (both 7-4). Apart from Annacone, the top seed, Tim Mayotte, of the United States, also qualified for the quarterfinals after losing the first set to a South African, Eddie Edwards. In Gstaad, Switzerland, Chris Lewis was beaten 6-4, 6-2, by Steve Meister, of the United States, in the second round of the Swiss open.
