Radio promises quick results and predictions

Radio stations in Christchurch will provide extensive coverage of the snap election results on Saturday evening, with regular information on results as well as predictions.

Radio Avon will broadcast reports every 20 minutes from 7 p.m., with results as they come in and comment from Mr Mark Steele, a political scientist. It will also broadcast predictions from a computer programmed by Mr Alan Mcßobie.

Radio Avon’s programme director, Mr Rob McKay, said Mr Mcßobie’s computer program was highly successful in predicting the 1981 election results early in the evening.

comment? and its commentators will be the political scientists, Professor Keith Jackson and Mr Nigel Roberts. All Radio New Zealand stations will provide election summaries and comment on Sunday morning, with 3YA broadcasting a nationwide results summary at 8 a.m., and an hour-long “Checkpoint Special” on the elections at 9.30. Radio Rhema will regularly broadcast results as they come to hand.
