Narrow win to C.B.H.S.

Christchurch Boys’ High School maintained its unbeaten record in the Trusteebank Schools’ Trophy rugby competition on Saturday, but it was made to work hard by a spirited St Thomas’s College side.

Christchurch Boys’ won the try-less match, 9-6, through a dropped goal- and a penalty goal by Kelwyn Hansen and a penalty goal by Dane Fea. Gerard Ahern kicked two penalty goals for St Thomas’s. The winners dominated

the first half, especially in the forwards, but found points hard to come by. With the scent of possible victory, St Thomas’s came back strongly in the second half and Tony MacDonald went very close to scoring a try. With the 6-3 defeat of St Andrew’s College by Christ’s College last Thursday, only Christchurch Boys’ and St Bede’s remain unbeaten in the school’s championship. ThejQwill meet later in the season.

In another championship match played on Saturday, Cashmere High School earned its second win of the season, 21-10 over Xavier College. For Cashmere, Brendan Kane (2), Darryl Pearce and Hugh Billings scord tries and David Paki kicked a conversion and a penalty goal For Xavier, Emmanuel Feala and Pati Lolotai scored tries and Sloan added a conversion.
