Mr Kirk aims for Miramar
PA Wellington Mr John Kirk, the Independent Sydenham member of Parliament, will stand as an Independent in the mar : ginal Miramar electorate, it was announced yesterday. Miramar is held by Labour’s Mr Peter Neilson, who took it from a former National Cabinet Minister, Mr W. L. Young in 1981, with a majority of 649.
Earlier this week, Mr Kirk, the son of the former Labour Prime Minister, Norman Kirk, said that he would contest a Wellington seat to do the most damage to Labour, and to enhance the chance of a government that he believed embraced the attitudes and philosophies of his father, more than the Labour Party.
