Wrongful arrest claim

rA Auckland A former Auckland policeman who claims he was wrongfully arrested and imprisoned is suing the police force for $12,000. In a statement of claim filed yesterday in the District Court at Auckland, Campbell Craig, aged 36, a company director, alleges he was wrongfully arrested in Albert Street last December 22.

The statement claims he was then forcefully taken to the Auckland Central Police Station where he was held for about three hours.

The next morning he appeared in the District Court at Auckland charged with obtaining credit by fraud. He pleaded not guilty, and at a depositions hearing on March 19 this year the prosecution offered no evidence and the charge was dismissed.

Mr Craig was a member of the police force for 10 years, and he alleges that during his wrongful arrest

and false imprisonment he was seen by former colleagues.
