Talented team
Auckland has assembled its most powerful combination for its annual hockey match against Canterbury at Porritt Park on Saturday.
The Auckland team contains six members of the New . Zealand Olympic squad, a former New Zealand player, and two New Zealand juniors. Peter Daji, who was unable to play in a tournament at Whangarei at Queen’s Birthday Week-end, is back in the side which is being coached this year by Kevin Towns, himself a former New Zealand player.
The team is:
lan Woodley, Mark Smithells, Trevor Laurence, Mohan Patel, Jeff Archibald, Chris Brown, Daji, James Smith, Arthur Parkin, Ramesh Patel, Simon Norton, Dave Peterson.
One of the umpires for the game is Ross Ambler from Canterbury who just three seasons ago was a key member of the Canterbury team. Ambler earned respect for his ability at striking penalty-corners. It will be Ambler’s first major representative fixture.
