Woman attacked in her home
PA Tauranga A young married woman was recovering in Tauranga Hospital yesterday after being attacked by a knifewielding intruder in her home on Monday evening.
The woman suffered knife wounds to the hands while defending herself. She was alone in the house, watching television in bed, when the attacker broke in about 9 p.m.
The police said her husband was out of the house for only about 40 minutes and the intruder fled when he heard him return.
An extensive search by police with tracker dogs failed to find the assailant, who is described by the police as being Maori, about 1.75 m tall, and of thin build.
