Brazil beaten in soccer at home
NZPA-AFP Rio de Janeiro England's wing. John Barnes, and that most typically English centre-for-ward, Mark Hateley. gave their team a famous and unexpected 2-0 victory over Brazil in the Maracana stadium this week. Barnes opened the scoring after 45 minutes and Hateley. winning his first cap. added the second in the sixty-fourth minute with a goal very much in keeping with his determined display as a central target man. Brazil side, undergoing a rebuilding programme under its new manager. Edu. failed to beat England's goal-keeper. Peter Shilton, in the early stages as a youthful England lineup made a jittery start. And the young English side built on 34-year-old Shilton's expertise, which helped him produce a number of early saves, to forge a magnificent victory. 11 was Brazil's first defeat by England on its own soil, and its first in the Maracana stadium for three years.
