S.I. shooters win
PA Timaru After 23 consecutive victories to the North Island, the National Smallbore Rifle Association's 1984 open match was won by the South Island team in Waimate at the weekend. In a close match, the South Island team’s score of 7830 was only three points ahead of the North Island total. In the women’s section, the South Island team took first place for the fifth successive year, while the junior section was again won by the North Island.
The South Island women totalled 3905.144, 19 points ahead of the North Island team. In the junior section, the North Island team score of 2923.91 was 31 points ahead of the South Island. lan Newton, of Wellinton, won the individual trophy for the highest score in the interisland open match with a score of 399.25 out of 400. Raylene Peattie, of Temuka, took the R. E. Taylor Cup for the highest score in the South Island women's team with 397.15.
