Gisborne fire

PA Gisborne An early-morning fire in Gisborne yesterday caused damage estimated at about $250,000 in a workshop for handicapped people. The Vanessa Lowndes Abilities Workshop, which employs 35 people, had been completed about 18 months ago. A milkman raised the alarm at 5.19 a.m. but the workshop and much of the building containing it were destroyed. The workshop manager, Mr Gerry Escott, said that offers of help were flooding in and he hoped it would be back in business in some way in about a week.
