A North Canterbury Catchment Board & Regional Water Board UNLAWFUL CUTTING FOR FIREWOOD THE NORTH CANTERBURY CATCHMENT BOARD does not permit the cutting of firewood from its riverbed and berm plantings. Willow, poplar and pine trees have been planted for river protection purposes. The Board is concerned that in recent times trees have been cut down and taken away for firewood and that this has resulted in a reduction in the effective protection. The support and co-operation of all people using the riverbeds in preventing this type of damage is essential to the Board in its management of the riverbed areas. Persons convicted of wilfully destroying or damaging trees are liable to a fine of up to $lOOO. E. R. WOOD, Chief Executive Officer.
