CBA Finance board strengthened
Mr lan C. Matheson has been appointed a director of CBA Finance Holdings, Ltd, the chairman, Mr R. H. V. Douglass, announced yesterday. Mr Matheson is deputy managing director of the Westpac banking group and a director of Westpac Banking Corporation, Sydney. Mr Matheson is also a director of Australian Guarantee Corporation, Ltd, in Australia and is immediate past president of the Australian Society of Accountants. He fills the vacancy left by the retirement of Mr T. MarcusClark, in January this year. “Our company is going to play a much greater role in New Zealand’s domestic and international financial scene,” Mr Douglass said.
“This is enhanced by our close relationship with the Westpac banking group. The appointment of Westpac’s deputy managing director to our board will greatly assist our development plans and rounds out our board of directors,” said Mr Douglass. Commenting on the appointment from Sydney, the chairman of the Westpac Banking Group, Sir Noel Foley, said that the move was “a clear and significant indication of the Westpac’s confidence in the company. By making available our group deputy managing director to join the board of CBA Finance, we underline Westpac’s continuing support and dedication to the success of that company.” The CBA Finance directors have also announced
that Mr George Stoopin, who joins the company as chief executive later this month, has been appointed a director of CBA Finance. Other directors are: Dr Don Brash, managing director of the New Zealand Kiwifruit Authority, and former general manager of Broadbank Corporation, Ltd; Mr Win Christian, director of Farmers Trading Company, Ltd; Mr John King, a senior partner of one of New Zealand’s largest firms of solicitors, Russell McVeagh, McKenzie, Bartlett and Company, Mr Noel Lough, former permanent secretary of the New Zealand Treasury, now a director of many New Zealand companies; Mr Geoffrey Thompson, general manager in New Zealand of Westpac Banking Corporation.
