Scheme repackaging
PA Levin The National Superannuation Scheme would be maintained in its present form, said the Under-Secretary for Internal Affairs, Mr Thompson, yesterday. He told local members of the Government Superannuitants Association that the outcome of a review of the scheme was not settled
but he believed the package being considered had improvements in areas of their concern. These were in the cost of living adjustment to benefits for those aged under 60, provision for post-retire-ment marriages, and the revision of the final fiveyear average salary formula used in calculating
retiring allowances. "However, the Government has made clear that there must not be an increase in the cost of the fund to the taxpayer and we have to compare the benefits from private funds and other expectations that will be available on retirement,” Mr Thompson said.
