Chch airport clouded in
Low cloud at Christchurch Airport yesterday morning forced the cancellation of six Air New Zealand domestic flights and delayed one Mount Cook flight. The airport was closed to landings for two hours during the night and again from 8 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. The closing forced the cancellation of the 7.45 a.m. and 9.35 a.m. flights from Wellington and the 8.20 a.m. flight from Auckland, which was instead diverted to Dunedin. Passengers from that flight arrived in Christchurch on the 11 a.m. flight
from Dunedin. Because of the nonarrival of those aircraft, the 8.20 a.m. and 10.10 a.m. flights to Wellington and the 8.50 a.m. flight to Dunedin were also cancelled. An Air New Zealand spokesman said that by late yesterday afternoon all of the affected passengers had been rebooked and reached their destinations. Mount Cook Airlines’ 9.35 a.m. flight from Queenstown and Mount Cook was forced into a holding pattern above Christchurch until it was able to land during a brief movement in the weather at 9.55 a.m.
