University Vacancies THE UNIVERSITY OF PAPUA NEW GUINEA (Port Moresby) RE-ADVERTISEMENT VACANCIES APPLICATIONS are invited from suitably qualified persons for the following positions In: THE DEPARTMENT OF DENTISTRY PROFESSOR OF DENTISTRY (P.851001/84) Applicants should have a Fellowship and or a doctorate or equivalent qualifications and teaching experience preferably in the field of Community and Preventive Dentistry. Suitable persons in other fields Of CLINICAL DENTISTRY are eligible to apply. Applicants must have had a distinguished academic career. Additionally some experience in a developing country would be an advantage through not essential. The successful applicant will be expected:— (a) to teach mainly undergraduates and post graduate students as well as assist with training of National staff to obtain further qualifications. TEachlng of Para-Dental Personnel is also expected. (b) to provide academic and professional leadership to all staff by way of active research, patient management and curriculum development. Applications will close on October 31, 1984 and the appointee will be expected to commence duties as from January, 1985. SALARY: Professor — K 22.820 per annum plus gratuity. OTHER CONDITIONS The successful applicant will be offered a contract for a three year appointment. The gratuity entitlement Is based on 24 per cent of salary earned and is payable In Installments or lump sum and Is taxed at a flat rate of 2 per cent. The University of the South Pacific FELLOW IN DEVELOPMENT PLANNING (Post 84/52) APPLICANTS should have a University degree In Economics preferably with postgraduate studies in Development Economics, or a good first degree plus recognised professional qualifications and practical experience. Experience at executive level In government In macro and/or sectoral planning a priority. Some experience In regional planning, an advantage. The preferred candidate is expected to have teaching or training experience at the tertiary level. The appointee will be expected to travel In the University region to conduct training programmes. LECTURER IN ACCOUNTING (Post 84/53) Candidates should possess a Masters (Honours) degree In Accounting or Its equivalent (e.g. MBA or MCom) and teaching experience at University level or relevant professional experience and qualifications. Knowledge of business Information systems, auditing or government accounting Is an advantage. The successful candidate is expected to conduct research and publishes in his specialised areas of Interest and accounting Issues of the region. Salary will be in accordance with qualifications and experience In either Lecturer II scale $F9525 - 10,690 or Lecturer I scale $F11,085 - 15,245. Salaries are currently under review. The University currently receives funds to support staff from Australia and New Zealand. An appointee who Is a citizen of any one of these two countries would be eligible for support under the relevant scheme. Such support generally brings the total emoluments up to the level for a similar post In the country of the origin. Details are available from the Registrar. In addition the University provides gratuity amounting to 15 per cent of basic salary, appointment allowance and, subject to the University’s current housing policy, partly furnished accommodation at a rental of 12% per cent of salary. The University will pay an allowance In lieu of superannuation of 10 per cent of standard salary. In some cases this allowance may be paid direct to the appointee’s existing superannuation scheme subject to a decision on acceptability of the scheme by the Commissioner of Inland Revenue. Appointment will be for a contract period of three years and may be renewable by mutual agreement.
