Fire damages wharf shed
Fire moderately damaged a shed at the breastwork end of the No. 6 wharf at the Port of Lyttelton last evening. The Lyttelton Volunteer Fire Brigade was having a training exercise at the port fire station at the time of the call, just after 7 p.m.. and was quickly on the scene to control the blaze. It appeared that the blaze had started from a fire in a pot belly stove in the shed.
said the Lyttelton Fire Chief, Mr Ray Arthurs. There was no damage to the wharf, he said. A fireman had to be treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
The shed was used by the Lyttelton Harbour Board as a' workshop for splicing wire.
