Sly out of Olympics
PA Auckland The Auckland yachtsman. Chris Timms, has been added to the New Zealand Olympic yachting team. He wi'll be forward hand for Rex Sellars in the Tornado catamaran class. Rex Sly, who acted as Sellars' forward hand when the Nelson crew won the Olympic selection trials, has made himself unavailable for the Los Angeles Olympics. Timms sailed with Brian Peet (Auckland) and was placed second in the Olympic trials. Ralph Roberts, the manager
of the Olympic yachting team, last night commended Sly for not leaving his withdrawal until the last minute. "We have had to regretfully accept Rex's resignation from the Tornado crew," said Roberts. "It is unfortunate for him but at this stage is repairable. If he had left it until Olympic week we could have been forced into some deep thinking." Timms is an experienced crewman sailing Tornadoes. In 1976 he was the forward nomination with helmsman Laurie Hope for the Montreal Olympics
