Guides celebrate 60 years
About 200 former Girl Guides met at Cracroft yesterday to celebrate 60 years of guiding in Canterbury. The air was full of the sound of childhood stories as the women reminisced with old friends and gave summaries of their lives. Many marvelled at the facilities and comforts offered to Guides of today at Cracroft.
About 15 women, who had been Peace Scouts when the Guide movement began in Canterbury in 1924, attended the party.
One of the highlights of the party was the cutting of a birthday cake shaped like a Guide badge.
The New Zealand chief commissioner, Mrs Joyce Evans, also attended the gathering and spoke on guiding in the future.
