Tredici ready for Masterton
Special correspondent Palmerston North Tredici looked in great heart in his final gallop at Awapuni yesterday and seems certain to go close to repeating last year’s success in the Betts Handicap at Masterton tomorrow. Tredici, which ran third at Foxton last week, is one of a small but strong team the trainer, Noel Eales, will take to Masterton. Under the Clock was another member of the team to impress yesterday. On the course proper Tredici was going strongly with Trusttum at the end of 1400 m in Imin 345, the last 600 m with something in hand in 40s. Indeed and Silverstyle ran keenly over 800 m in 50.45, the last 600 m in 36.45. Indeed is at his best again and could go a big race in the Rosswood Mile. Acupuncture and Deltula did good work over 800 m in 495, the last 600 m in 365. ' Acupuncture has looked like winning a race for some time and might go close in the Te Parae Maiden. Sound Shell and Cause For Pride worked over 1600 m and were timed for the last 1000 m in Imin 9.4 s and the last 600 m in 40s. Cause For Pride ran a better race at Trentham and has a chance in the Opaki Hurdles. Cinaro ran the last 1200 m ! of his work in Imin 24s in preparation for the same race. Under The Clock, which has trained on well since ' running third at Trentham. was impressive running ■ 1200 m in Imin 18s. the last 600 m in 395. He will be a
top chance in the Rosswood Mile. Fantastic was going evenly all the way over 1600 m in lmin 51s, the last 1200 m in lmin 19.5 s and the 600 m in 375. This was a top trial for the Betts Handicap. Head Shepherd ran 1200 m in lmin 20s, the last 600 m in 38.45. He ran a bold race in his jumping debut earlier this month and could quinella the Opaki Hurdles with Trusttum. Sfakia and Cartell ran impressively over 800 metres in 495, the last 600 m in 365. Sfakia, which makes a fresh start at Masterton. meets a strong field in the Mahunga but should be prominent. On the plough Rotorua candidate, Pleading, galloped 800 m easily in 52.55. the last 600 m in 3*Bs. She has been kept fresh and should give a good account of herself if the ground is reasonably good at Arawa Park.
