‘Narrow-minded fundamentalists’

Mrs D. L. Prouting (Sandy Knolls): Congratulations on your article. No doubt you expected many infuriated “fundamentalists,” as Professor Geering would call them, or, as some will say, narrow-minded Christians. What would Jesus Christ have said to know that His definitions of a Christian have been superseded by the worldly view of a “divine” authority such as Hans Kung, the Swiss Roman theologian? No doubt, seeing Christ’s words have been discarded as representing any authority on Christianity by Professor Geering, it would be fruitless to quote Paul’s words about man turning aside to fables with itching ears, or any of Christ’s words. So what is one left with? I, for one, propose to study Christ’s words. Is it possible that for all these years Jesus really has not known anything about Christianity? The article made sensational reading. No doubt you will be inundated by “fringe lunatic” replies. I hardly expect a letter supporting the fundamental founder of Christian-

ity to rank worthy of notice today, being presumably narrow-minded and unchanging, and definitely not liberal.
