Prosecution of artist withdrawn

PA Auckland The police yesterday withdrew two charges against the artist Philip Clairmont, who was found hanged at his home last week. In the District Court at Auckland, Sergeant Steven Cole told Judge Imrie that Clairmont had been charged with assaulting a constable with intent to obstruct, and possessing a knife with intent to use it to commit an offence involving threat of violence. The charges related to events on May 9. Clairmont was described in the charges as a beneficiary, aged 34, of Mount Eden.

The Judge granted the police motion.
