Jury decides Cameron guilty of drug charge

PA Auckland A High Court jury yesterday found Bruce Douglas Cameron, aged 32, guilty of manufacturing and of possessing the hallucinogenic narcotic, phencyclidine, also known as P.C.P., after deliberating for six hours. Cameron, of Sandringham, was remanded in custody to May 31 for a probation report and sentence. Mr Justice Casey had earlier told the jury that they must decide for themselves whether circumstantial evidence proved that Cameron had manufactured phencyclidine. His Honour said the en-

tire Crown case against Cameron was based on circumstantial evidence and it was essential that the jury looked at the evidence as a whole. Cameron had pleaded not guilty to charges of manufacturing the hallucinogenic drug, and of possessing it in October. His Honour said it had not been challenged that the substance Cameron’s young son had accidentally swallowed was phencyclidine. The police had arrested Cameron several days after his son was taken to hospital and heavy doses of the drug were found in his system.
