Record golf loss

PA Wellington The Golf Association had a record loss of $23,691 on the Broadbank Open in Auckland last year, the association’s annual meeting was told this week. The previous year it lost $lB,OOO on the event. Delegates were told that initially a $45,000 loss has been budgeted for this year’s event at Paraparaumu However, a sub committee has been formed to study costs, with the instruction that any loss should be held under $24,000.

The annual fee for golfers was increased from $4.60 last year to ?5.50 for the coming year. The fee will include $1 to the Turf Culture Institute. There was much discussion on whether the Australian Golf Union’s handicapping and course rating sys-

tern should be introduced in New Zealand and it was eventually decided the council should proceed with the implementation of the Aus ( tralian system. It was stressed that it would be next year at the earliest before the system could be introduced.
