Mr Derek Morten, who has been re-appointed to the board by the directors of Phoenix Meat Company, Ltd, the West Coast beef processing co-operative. His appointment was made after the death of Mr R. P. Nolan. Mr Morten played a major role in the initial development of Phoenix Meat, and he served on its board for five years until his retirement as managing director of the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company, Ltd. He has been a director of Ballin Rattray, Ltd, for a number of years. The Kokiri, Westland, company handled more than 11 per cent of the total South Island beef kill last year — its third year of operations.
