Hotel robber jailed
PA Wellington A man was jailed for four years for the aggravated robbery of $12,646 from the Tramway Hotel when he appeared for sentence this week in the High Court at Wellington. The money was taken during a robbery at the Newtown Hotel on September 5 last year. Wayne Morris Lepper, aged 33, was found guilty of dthe robbery by a High Court jury earlier this month. He had pleaded not guilty to the charge of aggravated robbery of the hotel with another person. The other person has not been identified.
The Crown alleged a sawn off shotgun and a knife were held by the robbers.
Stephen Hohepa MacDonald, aged 26, was found guilty of two counts of being an accessary after the fact of assisting Lepper to avoid arrest and by suppressing evidence against him. MacDonald was jailed for two years. Joyce Elizabeth Luddeon, aged 24, was found guilty of being a party to robbery, but not aggravated robbery, and was sentenced to 150 hours community service. She was released on two years probation.
