Carborundum joins trading list

Rises and falls were in balance as share prices yesterday staged a recovery from the recent bearish trend on the New Zealand Stock Exchange. Carborundum, the abrasives manufacturer, made its debut on the market, the 50c shares issued at 130 c each, selling in a range of 145 c to 162 c. The largest parcel sold at 155 c. Horticultural Industries, a recent listing, rose 8c to 150 c in reaction to Freightways seeking a 20 per cent holding in the company. Freightways also gained 8c in reaction to the offer. Market leaders to improve included Brierley. Feltex, Fletcher Challenge, and New Zealand South British. But, ANZ Banking Group, NZ Forest, and Wattie were still easier. The oil sector was down, in spite of its market indicator showing a slight gain.
