Video sellers warned
The Christchurch police have warned people selling video recorders privately to be careful when giving details over the telephone after a spate of video recorder thefts from private homes. Detective Brent Thompson said there was a trend towards burglaries of videos from homes of people who were selling the items privately and had given their home addresses over the telephone.
“It is quite surprising the number of people who have told people they won’t be home at a certain time, and during that time the burglaries occur,” he said. Detective Thompson said that at least eight recorders had been stolen in this way. People who are suspicious about the buyers of their video recorders should write down a description of them and their vehicle numbers, he said.
