Cricket honours
NZPA London The former New Zealand spinner, Hedley Howorth was one of four players honoured with life membership of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). Howarth, whose 86 test wickets make him the sixth most successful New Zealand bowler, was named along with the Australian paceman, Max Walker, the South African batsman, Eddie Barlow and the Indian spinner, E.A.S. Prasanna. The New Zealand Cricket Council chairman, Mr Bob Vance, was one of three officials who also received life membership of the MCC. The others were Kurt Neilsen, the president of the Danish Cricket Association, and the English umpire Charlie Elliott.
