Boost for appeal
PA Wellington Olympic discussion centred on Moscow’s stance this week but New Zealand officials still found time to add another six-figure sum to their Los Angeles appeal. At a function in Wellington, the chairman of Shell, Mr Paul Skinner, presented the Olympic appeal organisers with a cheque for $lOO,OOO - $50,000 for administering the appeal, and $50,000 proceeds from sales of the Goldie mascot. Shell
is the principal sponsor of. the appeal. The cheque, coming after Tuesday’s $300,000 from the Lottery Board, takes the appeal total to SI.4M. The target to send the team of 119 to Los Angeles in July is S2M. A public appeal will be launched next month although the appeal director, Jock Lee, said the balance of $600,000 is not being entirely sought from the public. “We’ve still got a few projects to launch,” he said.
