Health foods
Sir,—lt appears that no-one wishes to take up my suggestions that typical, ordinary, popular foods be analysed to check on their nutrition value. Fortunately work has already been done along similar lines. Some years ago, a Dr McHarrison, Director of Health in India, made the following test. Some white rats were taken off their regular food of healthy grains and fed on a typical cross-section of foods eaten by people with reasonable living standards. Within a short time the rats lost their glossy-skinned healthy look. Many of the rats died and many of the rest showed signs of sickness. When the doctor changed them back to their previous food, the health of all the rats
