Valuation disputed
PA Wellington The Wellington Rugby Union had tried to inflict the greatest possible economic hardship on the Maori owners of Athletic Park, the High Court in Wellington has heard. Counsel for the Maori trustee, Mr H. S. Hancock, said in his opening address that the maximum rental allowed was inadequate and disadvantageous to the owners. The injustice could only
be remedied by Parliament or by “a voluntary anc magnanimous act” by the Rugby Union, he said. The Wellington Rugby Union has objected to the Valuer-General’s special valuation of Athletic Park in 1974 made for the Maori trustee. The action, in the administrative division of the Court, is presided over by Mr Justice Jeffries, assisted by a former valuer-general. Mr Robert MacLachlan.
