Golf win for St Bede’s
St Bede’s College will be the Canterbury representative in the New Zealand final of the National Provident Fund secondary schools’ teams golf championship in Wellington in the August school holidays. The College A team of J. Sincock, R. Mercer, S. Murphy and N. Chambers, won the Canterbury regional final at Waimairi Beach yesterday with the three best gross scores totalling 242. Mercer and Chambers both had 80s and
Murphy scored 82. St Bede’s was also successful in 1982. Hornby High School A and last year’s champion, Shirley Boys’ High School A, finished equal second on 247. In the best net competition, where all four scores counted, Lincoln High School and St Thomas’s College tied for first on 297. The individual best gross and net awards went to M. Brownlie (Hornby Hign School, 81) and G. Dunlop (Rangiora High School, 65), respectively.
