The Christchurch Symphony Orchestra’s 1984 Sun-' day Series begins 27, with sponsorship by'the Queen Elizabeth II Arts

Council and Motor Corp Christchurch. The four-concert series at the Christchurch Town Hall will feature a wide variety

of music including Mozart, Bach, Haydn, Lilburn, Ritchie, Horowitz and Rodrigo. The first concert will feature Paulene Smith and William Waterhouse as soloists. Paulene Smith is the leader of the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra and a founding member of the Camerata Quartet. A violinist, she will play Bach’s Concerto for 2 Violins and the Concerto for the Violin and Oboe. William Waterhouse was the principal co-bassoonist of the 8.8. C. Symphony Orchestra and a member of the Melos Ensemble. He is in Christchurch tor a week in May to give woodwind and bassoon tutorials and will play the Mozart Bassoon Concerto with the orchestra. The second concert, on July 1, has Walter Goedde and David Vine as soloists. Mr Goedde is a cello tutor at the University of Canterbury School of Music. During the recent Christchurch Festival he gave a

series of cello concertoes. He will play the Haydn Cello Concerto in D. David Vine divides his time between Christchurch and Auckland where he conducts Perkel Opera. He is well known as a harpsichordist. July 22 is the date for the third concert, when Paulene Smith and Margaret Sayers will be the soloists. Margaret Sayers is a member of the orchestra’s oboe section and has performed with her husband, Keith, who also plays the oboe. Suzanne Court is the soloist for the last concert on September 2. One of this country’s leading guitarists and lutanists, she will play Rodrigo’s “Fantasia.” Carl Pini, of the School of Music, will conduct three of the concerts and Jack Spiers, of Dunedin, the other. Jack Spiers is Professor of Music at the University of Otago and has worked with the Dunedin Civic Orchestra. It is his debut concert with the C.S.O.
