Has won his last two races in style and should again prove more than a match for the rivals which will opose him in tonight’s field. SATURDAY AUCKLAND AUKLYN (Race 5) blk f, 3yrs by Auk — Helyn; trained at Takanini by R. C. Verner. Improved on first-up second this season with impressive win in maiden sprint at Avondale last Wednesday week. Up a grade but handily drawn and expected to go close again. MARLBOROUGH MAGELLAN (Race 8) br g, 6yrs, by Adios 11 — Love Life; trained at Riccarton by Mrs H. J. Preston. Lacks racing since July but could prove more than a match for most in tomorrow’s field if produced at his best.
N.Z. METRO NAVAL OFFICER (Race 10) b g 3yrs, by Midshipman - Smooth Robyn; trained at Broadfield by M. R. de Filippi. Won John Brandon New Zealand Derby Stakes last time out. Back to C2 company should be a class above his rivals. POVERTY BAY REKLAW (Race 7) ch g, llyrs, by Head Hunter — Blue Spot; trained at Cambridge by E. S. and N. E. Dromgool. Hardy veteran which appears well placed here against ordinary opposition. WELLINGTON THE FILBERT (Race 7) b g, 3 yrs, by Souvran — Fauxzann; trained at Hawera by D. Couchman. Previous winner on the course which shaped as if he was close to winning form again when finishing strongly for fifth over tomorrow’s distance at Avondale last Saturday.
