Brooking for N.Z.
PA Auckland Trevor Brooking, who has played more than 50 games for England, will play national league football in New Zealand for two months from early June. The cornerstone of the London club, West Ham, Brooking is being brought to New Zealand by the national league newcomers University Cowan, an official of the club said last night Now 34 years old, Brooking is in his final season
with West Ham. He has already announced his retirement from the game. Between 1974 and the end of England’s World Cup campaign in Spain in 1982, Brooking played 52 times for his country. A midfielder, who is not unused to playing as a striker, Brooking’s ball distribution and control played a big part in West Ham’s successes in recent years. He has played over 500 league games for West Ham, the only club for which he has ever played.
