PA Auckland A radio announcer, Alan Beagle, appeared in the District Court at Auckland, yesterday charged with possessing cocaine and cannabis.

His lawyer, Mr David Brown, asked for suppression of Beagle’s name as he was well known and had been involved in broadcasting for the last ten years. Beagle would be very much injured by publicity, and the charges were not connected with dealing, selling or importing drugs, said Mr Brown. Beagle, aged 30, of Westmere, was among 11 people who were arrested on Tuesday evening on drugs charges.

The others appeared before Judge Hall. Timothy Croft, aged 26, a viticulturist, of Gratia, faced a charge of procuring cocaine between May 31 and April 5, and a charge of possessing cannabis plant on May 1.

He was remanded without plea on $5OO bail and a similar surety. Julien James Croft, aged 24, an unemployed industrial designer, of Parnell, was charged with using cocaine on or about March 12, and with possessing cannabis plant on May 1. Gregory Michael Rose, aged 28, a renovator, was charged with conspiring to import lysergide into New Zealand between February 1 and May 1, 1984, and conspiring to supply cocaine between March 2 and May 1. He was remanded in custody without plea. Another air hostess, Shannon Agnes Rose, aged 33, of Papatoetoe, was charged with conspiring to supply cocaine between March 2 and May 1. She was remanded in custody without plea. Lionel Osbourne Buckton, aged 37, a watersider, of Drury, faced a charge of conspiring to supply cocaine between March 2 and May 1, a charge of conspiring to import LSD between November 1 and May 1, and a charge of possessing cannabis on May 1. He was remanded in custody without plea. All were remanded until May 9. Owen Ivor James, aged 29, a carpenter, of Ellerslie, was charged with procuring cocaine between December 1, 1983, and May 1, 1984. He was remanded on $5OO bail and a similar surety, without plea until May 10. An unemployed man, aged 34, from Takanini, whose name was suppressed, faced one charge of conspiring to supply cocaine, and a charge of possessing cannabis for supply.
