French tests condemned
NZPA-AAP Canberra A New Zealand Labour Party representative joined the Australian Labour Party in condemning French nuclear testing in the South Pacific at the Socialist International Conference in Denmark.
Mr Norman Kingsbury, a member of the Labour Party Council, and the A.L.P. representative, Senator Don Grimes, accused the French of “nationalism, colonialism, and continuing Gaullist defence policies.”
The criticism came in a submission during conference debate on disarmament.
Senator Grimes said that if the tests were as safe as the French claimed they should use their experiments on Corsica.
