Rescuers honoured
PA Wellington Four Wellington policemen have been awarded the Royal Humane Society’s bronze medal for the rescue of a fisherman off the West Coast last year. They are police divers Sergeant Wayne Wilkey, Detective Sergeant Peter
Thompson, Detective Brent Burt and Detective Constable Glynn Findlay. The medals recognise their efforts in saving a Westport fisherman, Mr John Hutley, aged 53, a diabetic, who had spent nearly 48 hours trapped in an air pocket in the upturned hull of his boat
