Alboreto triumphs
NZPA-Reuter Zolder, Belgium The Italian, Michele Alboreto’s storming drive to win the Belgium Grand Prix at Zolder yesterday has keenly whetted the appetite of Italy’s motor racing fans for the next round of the Formula One world drivers’ championship. Motor sport’s most partisan followers will flood into Imola for next Sunday’s San Marino Grand Prix ready to witness another Ferrari triumph. They may not be disappointed, judging by Alboreto’s victory: He dominated the race from start to finish and
became the first Italian to win the famed blood-red car since Ludovico Scarfiotti triumphed at Monza in 1966. Rene Arnoux fought his way into third place yesterday after dropping as low as tenth. Tyres and handling problems frustrated his bid to record the first Ferrari onetwo finish since last year’s Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort. The British driver, Derek Warwick, provided the meat in the Ferrari sandwich. Third in South Africa, he improved to second with another determined performance in a Renault.
