Experienced squad
The new coach of the Canterbury Country senior rugby team, John Creighton, is not short of experienced players to work with this season. Eight of his 21-man squad were part of Canterbury’s successful side last year. The forward pack will have height and weight to go with the experience. The presence of John Ashworth, Albert Anderson, Tony Thorpe, Andy Earl and the captain, Don Hayes, will pose problems for opposing packs. Country should have no fears in the vital positions of half-back and full-back; Bruce Deans and Robbie Deans, are safely ensconced
there, and Craig Green might give the back-line the sharpness it sometimes lacked last season. Country’s first two matches are away games against Nelson Bays on May 8 and Marlborough on May The senior and colts squads are:— Senior: R. Deans (Glenmark), A. Bolt (Kaiapoi), J. Ngatal (Bumham), K.
