Medieval dinner on menu

Four days of medieval workshops will culminate in a medieval dinner on tomorrow evening for 40 Cathedral Grammar pupils and their families. The boys are learning about the period, how to play old instruments, and medieval songs and dances. The workshops are being taken by 10 Auckland Teachers’ College students and their lecturer, Dr Roger Buckton. The teaching sessions afe part of the training students’ course in music. They chose Christchurch as the venue for the “away” section of their course because Dr Buckton’s sister, Mrs Gill Perkins, is a teacher at Cathedral Grammar. The dinner on Thursday will feature entertainment by the boys, who range in age from four to 14, and true medieval food, prepared by another Auckland Teachers’ College lecturer and his wife. The 100 people expected to attend the dinner at the school’s Chester Hall, will be dressed in period costumes.
