Laser scanners
Laser scanning devices that read bar codes are now being marketed by Datacom Equipment, Ltd, in New Zealand. The devices, made by a New York company, can read bar codes from a distance. Traditionally, bar codes have been read with a contact pen, which must physically stroke the code. It is estimated that the 3'
new “non-contact” scanners reduce the time taken to read bar codes by a factor of 10. The scanners are available in hand-held or fixed, mounted versions.
