Easy winners in squash
Murray Withers (Cashmere) and Robyn Carter (Linwood) were reasonably comfortable winners of the division one finals in the Lancaster Park club’s C grade squash tournament at the weekend. Withers beat Lou Wynard (Lancaster Park), in straight games, 9-5, 10-8, 9-4, and Carter also had a 3-0 win, beating Diane Bankier (Linwood), 9-3, 9-3, 9-3. Results:— Men's division one.—Semifinals: M. Withers (Cashmere) beat F. Williams (Christchurch), 5-9, 9-5, 8-10, 9-2, 9-6; L. Wynard (Lancaster Park) beat C. Cantwell (Marist), 9-4, 2-9, 9-3, 9-4. Final: Withers beat Wynard, 9-5, 10-8, 9-4. Third place playoff: Williams beat Cantwell, 9-5, 0-9, 9-4, 9-7. Plate: D. Lobb (Marist). Consolation plate: G. Franks (Lancaster Park). Special plate: M. Dowell (University). Men’s Division two.—Final: I. O’Rourke (Lancaster Park) beat D. Fitzmaurice (Lancaster Park), 1-9, 9-2, 6-9, 9-5, 9-2. Third place: D. Watson (Lancaster Park). Plate: J. McCarthy (Lancaster Park). Consolation plate: M. Harper (Lancaster Park). Special plate: P. Higgins (Suburbs). Men’s division three.—Final: C. Kerr (Lancaster Park), beat B.
